Five institutions ?National Institute of Informatics, Inter-University Research Institute Corporation/Research Organization of Information and Systems; Keio University ; The University of Tokyo ; Centre National de la Recherch? Scientifique and Universit? Pierre et Marie Curie? establish Japanese-French laboratory for Informatics (JFLI) to advance joint Japanese-French research and publication of results in the field of informatics.

The goals of this facility are to promote Japanese and French researchers through joint endevours; to publicize their results; to serve as a venue for training and development of young researchers; and to strengthen ties among those pursuing informatics research domestically and internationally. The facility will initially conduct research in five areas: next-generation networking, grid technology and high-performance computing (HPC), computer security, imaging and multimedia, and quantum computing. It will be jointly administered by NII in Japan and UPMC in France.
